In mid-october I was invited to a 3-day trip to Dublin and Tullamore by my friends over at applydea, the folks behind the maglus stylus. What was to follow was a series of fun events.
We started off with a 1-hour workshop for kids. Knowing we would head off to Charleville Castle later that night, the Idea was to reimagine oneself as a ghost living at the castle. We used Drawing Carl to create our alter ghost ego and the Puppet Pals HD to create little animations. This is now my favorite ap setup for working with kids.
After that we projected the ghostly images the kids made to the marvelous front of the almost 200 yrs old castle. Imagine the fun I had using tagtool to chase the kids around with ghosts and spooky eyes!
And then it was story time: told by the lovely Lady Bonny (who lives in the castle as well and knows all the ghostly inhabitants) we were told the story of Harriet, who fell to death on her birthday and now is a friendly ghost, much like the ghosts the kids created earlier. With Carla supplying sounds via vidibox and mic, we created a shadowplay in tagtool, projected to the walls of the castle.
And we finished off we a free tagtool session, again with Carla making music using NodeBeat HD to an audience of about 150 people.
Special thanks going out to Andy and Noel, the designers behind the Maglus for giving a great peek into their process and way of thinking as product designers. Coming from the field of UX-Design, I was highly inspired by their very focused and interative problem-solving approach. It left a strong urge inside of me to come back one day and learn more: about product design, about ghosts, and about triple destilled whiskey.
